FAT THURSDAY tradition in Poland reaches 17th century. It is the last Thursday before Ash Wednesday and the beginning of Lent. It's the last Thursday of the Carnival period and it"s dedicated to eating in a larger amount the food that according to the tradition is not eaten during Lent.

Among Fat Thursday favorites are PACZKI (single PACZEK)- deep-fried pastry traditionally filled with rose jam and glazed with icing or sprinkled with powdered sugar and FAWORKI also known as CHRUSCIKI (or ANGEL WINGS) - deep-fried thin strips of crispy pastry dough.

The tradition says that if you don't eat at least one PACZEK on this day you will have bad luck for the rest of the year! :)
